Matthew Conley
Straight from his native West Virginia, Matthew Conley’s new and exciting single, Downbeat Winston, beautifully wraps slick beats around a special cinematic vibe. The release’s two powerful beat-‐driven grooves – the dance-‐floor friendly Humdrummery and the atmospheric title track Downbeat Winston – epitomise Matt’s unmistakable and magical cinematic style.
His sounds capture an energetic mix of genres, bringing together elements of down-‐tempo, nu-‐ jazz, left-‐field, broken beat and glitchy Akufen-‐type beats. His influences include Amon Tobin, Clark, Bent, Lemon Jelly, Bonobo, Daedelus, Tim Exile, Massive Attack, Quantic, Jackson and His Computer Band, Modeselektor, and The Flaming Lips.
In 2013, Matt released his powerful five-‐track debut EP Help Yourself. Whilst Downbeat Winston is fresh out of the US, in 2014 Matt spent six months in India, where he recorded local musicians and searched for old rarities that will add a new dimension to his upcoming work.
Prior to spending time in India, Matt lived in Dubai, where he met Desmo Records’ founder, Adriano K. During his time in Dubai, he released his debut full-‐length album Imaginary Places, which was voted amongst the top ‘25 albums in 2014’ by Infusion magazine who went on to name him the “Aphex Twin of the Middle East”. Matthew moved back to the US in 2015.
